The advantage with Flash movies is that they come in small file size and shorter download time. This can be achieved by compressing the external graphics and sound elements along with the movie file, example jpeg and mp3. XML files loaded into a Flash movie are not compressed.
The Process :
The method of compressing XML file is slightly different. It is achieved using a variation of the LZ77 algorithm. It is a highly effective method and can be decoded quickly (This is helpful as the platform is Flash). The encoding is CPU intensive, and Action Script is not usually used. The Flash XML Compressor is therefore available as a separate program.

XML is nothing but extensible markup language. The tags of XML and HTML are quite similar but have one difference. The tags of XML do not describe the structure of the page; XML uses the tags to describe the data. In this way, structured data format can be extended without breaking previous implementations.
Advantage of using XML :
XML is utilized for importing and exporting data to and from various systems. It is simplified in such a way that different systems can read the data without knowing the exact structure of the data. Also it is standardized language in which data addition can be done to the XML data files without affecting the system.
An object model is created as XML data is loaded into flash. This is helpful in easy manipulation and works well when extracting the data. This is the same object model which can create XML data, and is used to export it to an external system.
Difference between simple loading and Flash & XML combination :
Another aspect of data transfer is retrieving information from an external system. In this case, load variables are created when small amounts of information are loaded. XML is extremely useful when amount of data to be transferred varies.
